For the period that your car is not parked on a public highway and no mileage is put on the clock, you can apply to the DVLA for reimbursement of your road tax whilst declaring it as SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification).

Our Laid Up classic car insurance policies mean you could pay less for your insurance to reflect the fact you are not driving the car but still want your car insured for fire and theft. Providing the car is garaged, we will provide a discounted price while your vehicle is laid up and declared SORN.

An alternative to laid up insurance cover is to suspend your insurance policy for the period your car is garaged and not used. Simply give us a call at the time you want to lay up your vehicle and again when you would like to re-instate the insurance to the original level of cover. Upon renewal of the policy you will be reimbursed for the premium (normally calculated on a pro-rata basis) for the period of cover of which your vehicle was laid up. Only a few insurers offer a suspension facility so if you think this is the best option for you, please check it is available prior to purchasing your insurance.
