MG Owners Club Race Championships

On Saturday 19th November over 80 people gathered at the Menzies Hotel in Cambridge for the MGOC 2011 Race Championship Awards Dinner and Dance. The evening was hosted by Jim Baynam, himself a keen competitor who together with Dale Wells from the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) presented the championship series winners with some impressive trophies.

The overall winner and Class A Champion was Jim Baynam. The Class B Champion was Huds Johal. The Class F Champion was Peter Higton. The Class Z Champion was Will Sharpe and the Novice Champion was Brian Butler.

It was quite evident from the evening’s activities that whilst everyone is fiercely competitive on the track, there is a great spirit and camaraderie off the track with the various teams, drivers, relatives and friends all pitching in and working together to make this a successful race series.

Now in its 33rd successful season the MG Owners Club race championship offers exhilarating Club racing for both competitor and spectator alike. As a result of our association with the British Automobile Racing Club, this MG motorsport series visits many prestigious race tracks throughout the UK.

The MGOC Championship is ideal as an entry to motor racing and the regulations have been set to prohibit expensive modifications. This means you can race your MG for a modest outlay and with only the essential safety requirements needed. If you are considering racing your MG or just interested in spectating, the MGOC Race Championship offers excellent value for money and is great entertainment with close fought racing on offer. The series is generally sponsored which subsidises the start money for each competitor and helps to keep the costs down.

There are four classes:

Class A for MGB, MGB GT, MG Midget, Austin Healey Sprite

Class B for MG ZS 120, MG Maestro Efi, MG Montego Efi, MG Maestro 1600

Class F for MGF 1.8 VVC

Class Z for MG ZR 160, MG ZS160
