Meet the judges...

Richard Monk, Director, MG Owners Club.

I would consider myself a dedicated MG enthusiast and have restored and owned many MGs  including a 1933 MG L1 Magna, 1949 MG TC, 1973 MGB GT and in my current ownership I have a 1974 MGB GT V8 which I have owned since 1975 and covered over 200,000 miles in. My everyday transport is a unique 2004 MG ZTT 385 XPower V8 which was the only one of its type to go down the production line at Longbridge before the collapse of MG Rover.

I am a keen photographer and the author of two high selling large format books entitled “The MG Collection” volumes 1 & 2 which feature many detailed images of MGs produced over the 80 plus years of MG history.

I joined The MG Owners’ Club in 1980 leaving a career in Telecommunications to work for the Club full time and have managed the Club Administration and the MGOC Workshop on a day to day basis ever since.

Jonathan Kimber, Technical Advisor, MG Owners Club.

Motor cars have been a way of life for me, since helping my father remove the engine from a Ford Granada at the age of five. Working my early years with Westfield kits cars I started working at MGOC Spares in 1990 being involved in parts sales and product development. After a brief departure in to manufacturing dog agility equipment I returned to the MG Owners Club as a technical advisor.

My role at the club has evolved over the last twenty years and now includes giving technical advice, carrying out valuations for MGOC and insurance companies, writing technical articles for Enjoying MG, coordinating and attending events, advising and inspecting vehicles for the DVLA , deputising for Richard Monk, the General Manager when required and, of course, making the tea!

Outside of work I enjoy motorsport and raced an MGB for some seventeen years in the MGOC race championship until children came along. DIY on major projects takes a great deal of my spare time but when the current project is finished I will start on restoring the MGC that sits in my garage begging for my attention.

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager, Lancaster Insurance.

I’ve been with Lancaster for over 20 years, and at the helm for four of those. Our relationship with the Club has always been a strong one and a real highlight for me was being involved with the Guinness World Record for the ‘Largest Parade of MGs’ at Rockingham in 2015. It was such a special day and great to spend it with so many members.

My two children, both under four, certainly keep me busy but I love getting outside and enjoying what our country has to offer. In the future, I’d love to own an MGA Roadster and go on a tour around the UK – hopefully with some good weather so I can enjoy the convertible in all its glory! There’s something fabulous about the styling, the handling, the driving position and the throaty engine roar, it would be a dream to have my own.

We’ve been showcasing a selection of members car in our monthly page in Enjoying MG for the past year, and there have been some real beauties. We’re excited to be further offering members the chance to share their stories and projects, I can’t wait to see the entries.

Dave Youngs, Car Club Manager, Lancaster Insurance.

I’ve been fortunate enough to work in the industry for about 12 years but have been a classic car enthusiast for as long as I can remember and been involved in a fair share of projects in my time! My collection has been an eclectic one some might say including various Morris Minors, a Series 3 Jag and an MG ZT estate. That was a great car, it was British Racing green and we covered about 40k miles together in just over a year. Some great memories

I’m still the custodian of the Jag, it’s a project that both my Dad and I have been involved with and I can’t see myself parting with it any time soon. For me, that is what is so special about our community. It’s the memories you make and connections you have with a particular classic and I can’t wait to hear all your stories.

My role as Car Club Manager sees me often on the road, when we can, and it’s always great to catch up with Richard and the team at the MG Owners’ Club. Outside of work, I love nothing more than taking a trip out on my motorbike and of course spending time with my trusted sidekick, Moose my three year old Boxer!
