2014 was already off to a great start following the acquisition of Lancaster by Markerstudy Group of Companies at the end of 2013. Though the word acquisition might shoot fear through the heart of most businesses, on this occasion, we knew we were not only in safe hands, but joining a company that was named 11th best to work for in the country by The Sunday Times. I have been with the business for five and a half years and working in the classic car insurance world since 1994. As a result I have seen the highs and lows of various periods, but I can honestly say that since joining Markerstudy we have had one of the best years I have witnessed, not only at Lancaster, but throughout my business career as a whole.
As many of you will already know - Lancaster celebrated its 30th Birthday this year and was originally created to offer a better deal to MGOC members. Over the last 30 years the business has grown considerably to become one of the most recognisable insurance brands in the classic car world. Despite the changes over the past 30 years, Lancaster still holds firm the same values that it did in 1984 – putting our customers’ needs, and our relationship with car clubs, at the forefront of our business model.
We have made a conscious effort to propel ourselves forward as a business with a number of new initiatives this year. We redesigned our adverts and websites to highlight our expertise and benefits, created new schemes for different models and nurtured relationships with new car clubs.
We’ve also increased our efforts to interact with and support you, our customers, by employing a dedicated Car Clubs Relationships Manager, Andrew Misseldine, who has been working tirelessly for the past 12 months to ensure that we’re doing all we can to promote the benefits of club membership. I hope that many of you will have worked with Andrew over the last year and, if not, I would urge you to find time to have a chat with him or me about the different ways that we can support one another.
A personal highlight for me was sponsoring the UK’s largest classic car show, the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. Those of you who went will know that we really embraced ‘The Big Screen’ theme with our mêlée of ‘80s film cars; Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, K.I.T.T. from Knightrider and The DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future. The electric atmosphere and enthusiasm was a testament to the incredible industry that we work in.
We also sponsored the Classic & Sports Car Club Awards, an evening that celebrated all that was good about car clubs and their members. Well done to everyone who entered and congratulations to the winners; for us it was an amazing opportunity to give something back to club members and to reward them for their devotion to the movement!
2014 has been a fantastic year and I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store – until then, a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
