Saturday 3rd October saw the Coupe Cup season come to a close at Thruxton Motorsport Centre, Andover, with a 15 minute race on Saturday, and the final round of the season in an extended 20 minute showdown on Sunday.
Huge congratulations to driver Alex Cursley in his Lancaster Insurance-emblazoned vehicle, who told us:
It was a cracking weekend for our final two rounds, perfect weather and a good turnout.
Qualifying on the Saturday saw me start 4th on the grid for race one. I immediately made the most of the first lap and got into the lead with a healthy gap which was diminished after high speed excursion at church corner. From then on I had to defend my lead like never before for the entire race before taking the win.
Race two starting from pole was a damage limitation exercise, knowing that my tyres had passed their best half-way through race one. Dropping back to forth was difficult having won the last four races entered. In the final stages I managed to grab third from Jon Winter (series coordinator) and had good battle for second, but ran out of laps. Good to be consistently on the podium!
This result saw me narrowly missing out as series winner. Not bad for my first season in the coupe cup, I feel.
It was great racing; we all looked the part and stood out in the paddock and on the track with our close clean racing.
Well done and congratulations, Alex!
