What better way to celebrate the MX-5 Owners Club 21st birthday than in glorious sunshine and in the beautiful surroundings of Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire.
Attracting thousands of MX-5 owners from across the UK and Europe, Lancaster Insurance was proud to be part of the main event, displaying the Lancaster Insurance sponsored BC Cars Motorsport Team MX-5 race car driven by Brian Chandler in the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championships, as well as the 750 Motor Club MX-5 Cup racing series on our stand.
The sunshine certainly brought out the crowds who were not disappointed with MX-5s of all descriptions: modified, concourse, race and a few very rare and unusual ones to whet your appetite. The sight of the recently released MK4 MX-5 with its distinctive newly designed body drew admiring glances from the crowds.
Lesser known but equally as impressive was the new Healey Design MX-5 bodied car, beautifully executed and constructed borrowing its styling cues from the Austin Healey’s of past, it was definitely a different take on the MX-5 concept. Others included a Ferrari 250GTO inspired roadster with a rather meaty V6 Alfa Romeo engine shoe horned into it which I would have presumed went as well as it sounded.
Plus there was the usual assortment of the good, the bad and the "my gosh what were you thinking of" to catch your eye.
The unexpected highlight was a rather bizarre (but somehow it worked) heraldic theme to the whole event complete with maidens, jesters and full on jousting on horseback with medieval knights in full suits of armor taking to each other in earnest. Not to be out done by, several MX-5 owners took to their steads and challenged each other in a modern day version in their MX-5s.
Plus, our congratulations go out to Andrew Cooke who won our track day competition for two complete with full racing instructions, timed driving, lunch and few hot laps with Brian Chandler at Bedford Autodrome.
Great people, great weather and all centred around a great little car that puts the fun back into driving; everyone who attended had a great time.
