2016 was an incredible year! For many it will be remembered for BREXIT and Donald Trump. For Lancaster, it was an also incredible year. So good, in fact, that when people ask me ‘what was your highlight?’ I find it hard to single one out as there were so many!
A definite highlight for me was our charity restoration project, Margo. Ian Wallman and the team at the MG Owners’ Club Workshop did an incredible job in restoring our 1969 Morris Mini Super Deluxe and bringing her back to her former glory. The work began early last year, and culminated with Margo being auctioned through Silverstone Auctions at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. Following an electrifying auction, nearly £14,000 was raised for Prostate Cancer UK and Margo found a new home in Wales thanks to Mr Haydn Davies buying her as a Christmas present for his wife. I’m pleased to say she was as thrilled as we were! Thank you Haydn!
Another highlight was our ongoing work with clubs this year and I’m proud of all the activities we’ve been able to support. We’ve partnered with over 30 new clubs this year and supported new club events such as ‘MGs in the Park’ and Mini Fair 2 in October. Dave Youngs also joined Lancaster as our Car Club Manager and with over seven years’ experience in the industry has been a huge asset to the team!
The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show was once again a great way to end a fantastic season! The NEC show is completely non-stop but one of the best parts is meeting you, our customers. We embraced the ‘Heroes and Heroines’ theme with a stunning array of cars on our stand, including the Bloodhound SSC show car and a number of exceptional classics! We also sponsored the Classic & Sports Car Club Awards, on the same weekend, to celebrate the fantastic achievements of members and clubs. Ant Anstead joined us, handing out awards and giving a speech to attendees about why he thinks our industry is so great and it’s fair to say a good time was had by all!
During the course of 2016 we have been able to significantly increase our client base. I’d like to thank all of our customers, old and new, as we continue to offer the best possible products at the best possible price. As we look ahead in 2017, I’m excited as to what lies ahead. One thing is for sure, we’ll continue to put our customers into the heart of everything we do and help our thriving industry grow and flourish.
