As summer is upon us, the classic car show season is in full swing and next month the annual Classics at the Castle event at Sherborne Castle is back and set to be bigger than ever! With Lancaster Insurance becoming headline sponsor and the event extending to two days (15th -16th July), the show will once again be raising money for a range of national and local charities including Cancer Research UK.
In its 14th year, the show is regarded as one of the premier classic and supercar shows in the South of England. As ever, there will be over 2,000 vehicles ranging from classic cars spanning some 80 years from early 1900s chain driven race cars to popular modern classics. Motorsport, both race and rally, will be represented, along with American, Custom and Hot Rod cars and of course a wide collection of Supercars
With Mercedes-Benz as the chosen marque feature for 2017, an 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen replica, kindly loaned by Haynes Motor Museum, and a rare 1928 Mercedes-Benz 36/220 S Type Tourer, kindly loaned by National Motor Museum Beaulieu, will be featured. There will also be a comprehensive display of other Mercedes-Benz on display, from 1886 to the present day.
Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager at Lancaster Insurance, comments: “This show is a perfect fit for us and we’re looking forward to meeting everyone over the weekend. The show showcases a variety of models and marques, and we’ve got some great cars on our stand so do pop over and take a look.”
Bronwen Burrell will be attending with her World Cup Maxi, and the 'Beauty Box', which was driven by an all ladies crew and finished a World Cup Rally in 17th place, will also be making an appearance. There will be auctions from Charterhouse Auctioneers and performances from 1930s girl group Hotsie Totsies throughout the weekend, so there’s something for everyone.
