It was my first time racing at Donington Park and I couldn’t wait to get started but unfortunately it began with a less than brilliant qualifying session!
I didn’t get any practise on track beforehand, so going into the first lap I didn’t even know which way the track would take me! In the end, the session was red flagged after a few laps because of a bad oil spillage on the track and overall, I felt really off the pace and disappointed with my lap times.
Despite the shaky start, race one was surprisingly brilliant! Thanks to those few practise laps in the qualifying session, I suddenly felt more confident in myself and my ability! I knew the twists and turns of the track and was ecstatic when I managed to knock 10 seconds of my qualifying time!
In race two, I was the only car in my class that took part so I came away with two class wins. I took the opportunity to get some more racing practise in and managed to better my first race time by two seconds!
I was so happy when I got out of the car as I felt I had conquered the craner curves of Donington! I can truly say I feel much more assured behind the wheel! Huge thanks to my fellow racing driver, Martin Wills, who advises me on gear changes and even draws me a map before each race weekend - its invaluable!
It’s now the countdown to Thruxton in less than a month - I cannot wait!
