Christmas Club of the Month this December visits the XJS Club, an odyssey to the great grand tourer with a membership stretching all over the globe, where the star is very much the car!
Mad about Jags, then the XJS club could be your go-to destination, because right here…the star’s the Car! Join the XJS cub and it’s your car that becomes the member and with a one off £10 lifetime joining fee, your car stays a member even if you sell it on to someone else.
“It’s a little bit different from other clubs”, says membership secretary Ian Evans, “and when we have new owners coming to ask about the club, they’re often surprised but delighted when they find their registration has already been listed with us”.
With a brilliant digitally produced monthly magazine, ‘XJS today’, members receive the very latest in news, events and technical back up, to make sure they’re in touch with everything new in the XJS world. All back issues are available to members free of charge.
The magazine started as a bimonthly digital publication, when the club began in 2012, but very soon became monthly as the club expanded running to 70 pages, with members writing the articles and contributing stories of tours they’ve taken across Europe.
“We’ve got 2,000 members, but 15-20% of those come from abroad and we even have members in New Zealand. I joined the club back in 2013, because I suddenly found when I need an answer to a question, there were hundreds of like-minded people who would help straight away.
“The new Facebook page set up only 12 months ago is thriving with vibrant and informative chats answering problems and acting as a marketplace for buying, selling, or exchanging vehicles.
“If you ask a question, chances are they’ll be 20 answers immediately and everyone is only too happy to offer advice and help.”
The XJS Club run a burgeoning social calendar with events already scheduled for 2022.
“We’ll be at the NEC restoration show in March, but as we’re passionate about grand tourers, we’re potentially looking at tours of Britain some with overnight stays. The club was originally based in the Midlands but we’re expanding our membership in the north and south so we’re looking to visit events that will allow more members to take part”.
The XJS Club is not only friendly, helpful and a hive of information; it’s also a club for kindred spirits and people across the world who have a distinct passion.
“Initially I fell in love with the engine when I bought my 1988 V12,” says Ian “but if someone asked me to qualify the attraction, it would have to be the flying buttresses, that to me, make the cars so special and differentiates them from other classics. There’s simply nothing quite like them.”
