The Lancaster Insurance and Practical Classics team undertook their epic Camper Round the Coast tour from 6-10 September. We travelled to Devon on 6 September, where the camper led a classic convoy of about a dozen vehicles from North Devon Sports and Classic Car Club who travelled with the team all day through Exmoor and to Woolacombe Bay where they were greeted by another 60 classics owned by Practical Classics readers and Lancaster customers.
Practical Classics Editor, Danny Hopkins led the tour to Camber Sands, East Sussex and then onto Saltburn-on-Sea, Cleveland, where more than 100 cars joined in the fun. Next was Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland and finally, Hunstanton Beach, Norfolk.
Our Car Club Manager, Dave Youngs said: “We were absolutely delighted at the turnout, it was wonderful to see so many cars and meet great people, including some existing customers. We’re so proud the campaign has raised over £900 for Prostate Cancer UK and we’re looking forward to seeing what the camper fetches at auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show.”
Danny Hopkins commented: “Teaming up with Prostate Cancer UK was a real privilege and I was honoured to hold out the champagne bucket during our Camper Round the Coast week. It gave shape and purpose to an excellent adventure…more than that, in fact, it galvanised us and brought hundreds of classic car owners out to say hello as we visited the beaches they had nominated.
“I was overwhelmed by how many of them had stories to tell about their own experience of prostate cancer, or of friends lost or impacted by it. What started as a restoration project and a magazine feature, suddenly became an emotional exploration of loss and heroism – it was a catalyst for shared experience, one I won’t forget. My own grandfather lost his battle against prostate cancer, it touches so many of us, and the work done by Prostate Cancer UK is so important in making sure the stories we might share in the future have an ever increasing number of happy endings”.
Nicola Tallett, Director of Fundraising & Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK, added: “The money raised by Lancaster Insurance and Practical Classics this year will support our life-saving research into prostate cancer and support all men affected by prostate cancer and their families. We thank them for their continued support.”
