Laura Godtschalk and Katie, Pride of Ownership winners 2022!

“I’ve got to be honest, I’m not a person that’s usually lost for words” says 2022 Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership winner Laura Godtschalk, “but when they announced my little car had won, I was totally dumbfounded.”

It says something very special about the competition itself that a “daily run-around”, can compete with some unbelievable restorations, and walk off with first prize.

Laura’s VW Mk1 1992 Golf Cabriolet was declared the winner following a public vote at the NEC last month, and Laura believes its popularity comes from personal experience.

“So many people came up to me to say they’d driven or currently drive a car just like mine. I do keep it clean, but it’s just my normal car which I use every day. It’s got 160,000 miles on the clock and I’ve never even thought about restoring it, apart from changing the stereo system because you can’t play tapes anymore!”
