It was a pleasure to sponsor this year’s Broadland MG Owners Club Heritage Run

16 June 2025

This year’s Heritage run is the 33rd organised by the Broadlands MG Owners Club, an annual fund-raising event for local charities. Previous beneficiaries have included The Big C Cancer charity, the Eye Opportunity group who support families with children that have additional needs, and the club’s continued sponsorship of Guide Dog Puppies organisation.

With over 130 cars in attendance, the big carpark of the Caister Lifeboat Station was a great place to see an excellent selection of MG’s as well as a other great classics from invited clubs that included a very rare 1969 Ford Capri 1300GT, a Model A Ford and a beautiful Citroen DS21 that was later to go on to receive the best car in show award.

At 9.00 am Lancaster insurance was given the job of waving off the cars from the start line with a chequered flag in true rally start style.

The route was about 70 miles and included several well-known Norfolk villages such as Hemsby, Sea Palling, Happisburgh, Swanton Abbott, together with some perhaps less well-known places such as Pollard Street, Burgh Next Aylsham, Hindolveston and Mill Street Elsing.

There was also a detour through Heydon and the magnificent grounds of the Heydon Hall Estate.

Heydon is listed in the Domesday as High Down and became Norfolk’s first conservation area in 1971 and home to Heydon Hall. Heydon Hall is grade 1 listed and was built in 1582 by Henry Dynne with later extensions in the 18th and 19th centuries.

A notable resident of Heydon Hall was Erasmus Earle in the early 17th century, he was a serjeant -at-law to Oliver Cromwell and became Lord of the manor at that time.

The finish point of the run was at Whitwell and Rephaim railway station which dates back to 1880 and was owned and run by the Lynn and Fakenham Railway company, the station is now undergoing some renovation and aims to recreate the station’s glory days of the 1920’s and 30’s.

The Lancaster Insurance Car Club Team were honoured to present the “best car in the show” to Richards’ Citroen DS21, a truly magnificent car. Richard was particularly excited to win this award as he wanted to buy a very special example of the model and had not had the car very long after a long search to find the right car.

The day ended as a beautiful warm bank holiday at a great location and a fine show of cars with well over £1000 raised for local charities.

Fleet of Classic MGs

With the winter coat now put away for the summer, this was a fantastic start to Classic car season in North Norfolk and thanks for the hard work that the Broadlands MG owners club rally committee have put in to making this a very special fun event.
