Several hundred classic MGs spanning 73 years of history took to Brooklands’ magnificent race track in glorious sunshine at the MG Era event on 10th April. Some dazzling examples included boat-tailed M-Types, elegant MG SA drophead coupes, 1960s MGCs and the more modern MGFs.

The chancellor brought some fantastic news for classic car owners in his budget earlier this year, announcing that cars built before 1976 qualify for FREE road tax from 1st April 2016. This announcement declares that “from April 1st each year, vehicles constructed more than 40 years before January 1st of that year will automatically be exempt from paying Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)”.

Stuart Turp from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, became the first winner of the inaugural Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership at the Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show, as visitors to Birmingham’s NEC voted his 1969 Ford Capri 1600 GT XLR as their ‘Pride and Joy’.
