LANCASTER INSURANCE CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW CELEBRATES 'HEROES AND HEROINES'

The organisers of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show have revealed that this year’s show theme is ‘Heroes and Heroines’. Held from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th November, clubs and exhibitors are invited to pay tribute to the people and motors that are their inspiration.

When it comes to the must-have classic cars, 2016 seems to be all about the hot hatch, but back in the 80s there was another breed of performance car on the road. We’re not talking of the sports cars such as the TVR 350, Lotus Esprit or the Toyota Supra, but the high performance saloon cars... These were known as ‘Q’ cars due to their understated looks and high performance, but they were guaranteed to leave Mr Hot Hatch in a trail of smoke at the lights.

Several hundred classic MGs spanning 73 years of history took to Brooklands’ magnificent race track in glorious sunshine at the MG Era event on 10th April. Some dazzling examples included boat-tailed M-Types, elegant MG SA drophead coupes, 1960s MGCs and the more modern MGFs.

Tax for classic car owners

The chancellor brought some fantastic news for classic car owners in his budget earlier this year, announcing that cars built before 1976 qualify for FREE road tax from 1st April 2016. This announcement declares that “from April 1st each year, vehicles constructed more than 40 years before January 1st of that year will automatically be exempt from paying Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)”.

Stuart Turp’s 1969 Ford Capri Wins The Inaugural Lancaster Insurance Pride Of Ownership

Stuart Turp from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, became the first winner of the inaugural Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership at the Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show, as visitors to Birmingham’s NEC voted his 1969 Ford Capri 1600 GT XLR as their ‘Pride and Joy’.
