The Hillman Imp – The Car for ‘The Young in Heart’

  • Andy Roberts |
  • 11th July, 2017

A confession – I am an unabashed fan of the Hillman Imp family. The early models are, in my not at all boasted view, one of the best looking small cars of their generation with their quasi-Chevrolet Corvair lines.

The Aston Martin V8 Volante at the Classics & Supercars Show Sherborne Castle

  • Lancaster Insurance Services |
  • 5th July, 2017

There is a rare breed of car that is a seamless blend of form, aesthetics and function and the Aston Martin V8 Volante certainly falls into this elite category. It was once famously described as having the ‘brutish good looks of an aristocratic rugby player and the interior refinement of a gentleman's club’.

Do You Remember the Morris Ital?

  • Andy Roberts |
  • 4th July, 2017

In the 1980s the Morris Ital was an essential aspect of everyday life. British Telecom Vans would attend to vandalised telephone boxes and no car park would have been complete without at least one Snapdragon Yellow 1.3 HL or an Applejack Green Estate.

The Alvis-Healey at the Classics & Supercars Show Sherborne Castle

  • Andy Roberts |
  • 3rd July, 2017

To many people, including myself, Sherborne Castle is one of the most stunning buildings in England, and that is without considering the display of rare, desirable and downright magnificent cars that will be taking part in Classics & Supercars Show on the 15th and 16th July.

7 Summer Motoring Classics

  • Andy Roberts |
  • 30th June, 2017

The months of June - September are when classics and Sunday motoring are as natural a combination as Tony Hancock and Sidney James. Some will take part in shows such as Hatfield House on 9th July, while others will take a deserved break from the working week and gently motor towards the nearest tea room. This magnificent seven list was selected of cars that I regard as being perfect for a summer weekend - even when stuck in a traffic jam on the A46.

The Batmobile - A Tribute to Adam West

  • Andy Roberts |
  • 29th June, 2017

Nearly every fan of all fine motor cars, television and superheroes, in general, know that there is only one real Batmobile. Just as the only Batman for me will forever be the late Adam West who died aged 88 on 9th June, the definitive transport for the caped crusader must be accompanied by Neal Hefti’s score, have tail fins and flames emitting from the exhaust pipe.

Cadwell Park Wolds Trophy –Rounds 3 & 4

  • Lancaster Insurance Services |
  • 27th June, 2017

Cadwell Park is one of the most picturesque race tracks in the world, in my opinion. Originally built with two wheel racing in mind, it soon also built a reputation for four wheel racing and with the track being narrow with great undulation, it creates a great circuit for close formula ford racing.

60 Years of the Edsel

  • Andy Roberts |
  • 27th June, 2017

It was a car that became a by-word for failure, one jokingly referenced in films as diverse as Peggy Sue Got Married and The Love Bug. It is, of course, the Edsel, which celebrates its 60th birthday this year.
