DO YOU REMEMBER - THE ORIGINAL FIAT PANDA?

The Panda is now well into its third generation but when did you last see one of the original versions? Once experienced, this was yet another Fiat could never be forgotten – the boxy yet attractive styling by Giugiaro, the flat windshield with its single wiper, the rear bench that could be arranged to form a hammock and the front ashtray that could be slid across the fascia.

The news that Paddy Hopkirk MBE will be attending the Lancaster Insurance Classic & Supercars Show at Sherborne Castle on 15th July has prompted me to re-watch some of the footage of the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally.

On the 31st August 1958, Anglo-Amalgamated released a low-budget National Service comedy film starring William Hartnell, Bob Monkhouse and Shirley Eaton. 70 YEARS OF THE WOLSELEY 6/80

The scene – a warehouse somewhere in London docklands, circa 1953. A gang of ne’er do wells, as immediately recognisable by their scowls, black shirts and white ties, have stolen a several crates of kippers and are making their getaway in a Ford V8 Pilot acquired that very day from a bombsite motor trader.

You never forget your first experience of the Renault 4; the flaps on top of the dashboard that could be opened to admit gales of fresh air into the cabin, the “Push-Me, Pull You” gear change and the way in which the switches were apparently thrown at random around the dashboard.

MY FAVOURITE RENAULT – THE 30TS

2018 marks 120 years of the original Renault Voiturette, which provides me with the highly enjoyable challenge of selecting my favourite of their cars. The Dauphine is a model I will always associate with Peter Sellers in A Shot in the Dark and as a long-term devotee of 1950s large saloons, the Frégate looks imposingly municipal.

Well, it might be worth the £1.50 rental fee...
